Three steps that stop the damage before we even pull up. Do what you can — leave the rest to us.
Shut your main valve
Usually where the water line enters — a basement wall, a crawlspace, or by the street meter. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
Kill the water heater
If it’s a water-heater leak, switch it off — the breaker for electric, the dial to “pilot” for gas. It protects the tank.
Open no more taps
Leave one low faucet open to drain the line, then stop. Less water moving means less to clean up when we arrive.
